Sunnyside Salsa is a vibrant community event hosted by Daughters and Sons of Borikén, celebrating the rhythm, history, and resilience of Boricua culture. Set in the heart of Sunnyside, this gathering brought together music, dance, and community as a form of cultural expression and resistance. Through salsa, movement, and collective joy, the event aimed to raise awareness about Puerto Rico’s rich cultural heritage while highlighting the island’s ongoing struggle after more than 100 years of colonization. Sunnyside Salsa served not only as a celebration, but as a call to remember, educate, and organize—affirming the right of Puerto Rico to self-determination and cultural preservation. These images capture the energy, pride, and unity of a community dancing in solidarity, honoring ancestral roots while envisioning a free and sovereign Puerto Rico.
